Julia Maryanska is a Polish-American filmmaker and photographer whose work is rooted in memory, lineage, and cultural re-tethering in a changing world.
Her work draws from her own history — from migration, activism, and art — to tell stories that remember, repair, and reimagine how humans can live in right relationship with one another and the Earth.
Julia’s artistic practice is rooted in the belief that image-making can be an act of personal healing and cultural regeneration. Working at the threshold between observation and participation, her approach to filmmaking and photography is an relational art form that serves as a bridge between worlds.
Influenced by her lineage of political activists and her lived experience as a mother, artist, and community builder, Julia’s work seeks to reimagine narratives of the feminine, the body, and the Earth.
She creates with reverence for vulnerability, treating it not as weakness but as a source of truth and a force of transformation.

FEATURED TESTIMONIALS
“Julia has an extraordinary gift for shaping a story arc with emotional clarity and artistic depth. In just eight minutes, she distilled the heart of The Broken Seder—its grief, beauty, and resilience—into a film that feels both intimate and expansive. She listened deeply, moved with reverence, and crafted something that doesn’t just document the installation, but carries its soul. I’m profoundly grateful.”

“Not only is Julia a lovely human who is incredibly easy to work with, very organized and accountable, and talented in her craft, from storytelling to camera work to editing, she has a way of approaching the world and her subjects that is so seamless that during our filming process, she became part of our world. This was incredibly important, as the subject matter was sensitive and the people being filmed could have felt awkward about it. But Julia's way is to make folks feel at ease, and so she was able to capture incredibly tender moments and then weave them into a film so powerful that people were honored to be a part of it.”

“One of the things I respect most about Julia is the depth of craft and skill she’s cultivated over her career, and how fully it shows up the moment she puts her earnest attention on your project. The combination of her artistry and expertise is not only unmistakable, it’s generous. She is a true storyteller, in both vision and sound, and I’m grateful to have had her collaboration in capturing projects and moments that have meant so much to me.”
